Welcome Home

So it didn't take long for part of my number 10 New Years intention to become reality. In my last blog, 2020 Intentions, the last intention on my list was:

10. Take risks. Maybe that will be moving to a new city, or possibly traveling somewhere unfamiliar, or maybe it will just be getting a new puppy, but whatever it is, don't be afraid!

No I am not moving out of Charlotte, and no I have not planned an elaborate vacation to an exotic destination (yet.....). BUT, I did recently adopt a new puppy! Everyone, meet Cash. This decision was somewhat talked about, but also a bit impulsive. My husband, Trent, and I have recently had what you would call, puppy fever. Over a month ago, I began volunteering at Lake Norman Humane, for what I thought would help cure puppy fever. For the most part, it did, until a group of lab mix puppies were brought in the first week of January. The four puppies in this litter were part of the "Little Mermaid" group, that consisted of Sebastian, Ariel, Ursula, and Flounder. I had not yet met the puppies, but I had seen a picture of Sebastian and Ariel on Facebook. I immediately showed Trent their pictures, and said they would be perfect. Later over the weekend, I found out both Sebastian and Ariel had already been adopted (puppies find homes so quickly, yay!). I started to think maybe a puppy was not meant to be at this moment in time.

While I was at work that Monday, I happened to hop on Facebook just to see if there had been any new posts about Ursula and Flounder. As soon as I checked the page, I saw a picture of this handsome black puppy with small white spots and perfectly flopped ears. The name Flounder was written next to his picture, and he was still available for adoption! I was immediately drawn to Flounder because he looked so much like our older dog, Balou, when he was a puppy. Also, what made Flounder interesting was he was black with white markings, and his other three siblings were all tan/yellow and smaller in size.

I sent Trent the picture of Flounder and said he would be perfect. After I kinda got the green light from Trent, I rushed out of work, in hopes Flounder would still be available when I arrived at Lake Norman Humane. When I arrived, they notified me Ursula had just been adopted, but Flounder was still available, BUT somebody was possibly coming to look at him the following day. I filled out an application form as quickly as possible (as they closed in less than an hour) in hopes to visit Flounder and see if he was "the one". Once I was approved to see/play with Flounder, I was immediately in love. Trent met him through Facetime, and agreed he looked like an awesome puppy. I was so so so in love with him and happy he was ours!

Balou has been my spoiled only child for the past NINE years. I was a bit nervous how he would react with a new puppy in the house. They initially got along the first night, but Balou was NOT happy about his new brother the second night. I was afraid this wasn't going to work. I would never want my first baby to feel abandoned or depressed. I actually waited to write this blog, in fear he would not come around to the idea of a new puppy. It has only been 4 days since bringing Cash (sorry, we just couldn't keep the name Flounder for such a handsome boy) home, but I can already tell they are going to be great friends. Balou really came around yesterday, and they played all night and even on my short lunch break today. We are looking forward to this puppy journey and our first experience in a TWO dog household. Our little family has grown from 3 to 4, and I couldn't be happier!

Welcome home, Cash.
